Wild Horse Advocate at risk of Homelessness!
Donation protected
A devoted wild horse and burro advocate who observes the Bureau of Land Management’s roundups is in trouble and needs our help! Monica was be paid a modest wage to witness the horrible roundups and quit her job so she would be available.
The roundups are now on hold and Monica has no income. She needs help to get through the month of September.
Monica Martinez Ross has sacrificed to devote many hours, days and months to bring the plight of wild horses and burros to the forefront so the public can see and get involved in helping them. It’s a thankless position and her heart is broken at every roundup by witnessing the abuse, cruelty and death that BLM inflicts on our wild ones. Unfortunately, it’s necessary to bear witness because with so few people willing to give up what Monica has and suffer what she suffers, there would be no one to keep the BLM in check. She looks out for the wild horses and burros and she needs us to look out for her.
Monica doesn’t make much money when she is an observer of roundups. Just enough to reimburse her travel expenses and pay her rent. It’s only worth it to her because she knows that the government sanctioned cruelty she sees would only be worse if there were no witnesses. Her observation of the recent Blue Wing roundup brought to light wranglers kicking an exhausted horse in the face after it had collapsed to the ground. That story was televised on the news and the wrangler was terminated. All because the incident was documented and filmed by Monica.
The hold on roundups is a good thing. Monica becoming homeless is not. She made the mistake of thinking that the constant BLM roundups would take a pause and her pay would stop. Nobody knows what the future holds, everyone makes mistakes.
Will you please help Monica? She has no pay, no money for rent and she is going to be evicted unless we help. If anyone deserves our support, it’s Monica Martinez Ross. A truly dedicated wild horse and burro advocate.
