Wifi 4 washing machines

If you asked us before all this began , never would either of us think that washing machines would help so much in getting our family through Quades cancer battle .

Quade is very famous around the children’s wards in both Randwick and Wollongong for his obsession with washing machines , vacuum cleaners and fans . He would be glued for hours on end being entertained in watching YouTube videos of what we would learn would be his favourite appliances....

To get through the isolating moments and tiresome periods in and around hospitals, we have managed to hold on to those little quirks that entertain our kids and thanks to the wireless internet , everything is so accessible .

The internet is INVALUABLE in distracting kids in hospital .. distracting from boredom, distracting from pain , distracting from the pokes and prods .. not to mention for the great doctors and fantastic nursing staff - the children’s distractions thanks to technology powered by WiFi make it easier for them to administer medicine, do their checks and ensure that the children can be treated properly.

It’s almost unimaginable that our own local Wollongong hospital children’s ward still does not have WiFi for the kids ! This became a serious consequence financially for us when we had to take Quade to Wollongong Hospital each time he fell ill after the Chemo drugs administered in Sydney. The amount of money we paid for data and top ups was our biggest expense during this time and we so desperately want to remedy this for future children and their families.

To give you an idea - a prepaid iPad data costs for us was approximately $120 per week visit in Wollongong- yep that’s a lot of YouTube washing machine clips! However, in Wollongong Hospital, as a cancer patient you are confined to your room alone with no children to protect your immunity therefore entertainment is only accessible through a TV which is great, but as kids need choice, iPads provide variety to settle the kids into viewing of their favourite YouTube clips, Netflix videos and other games and app’s that require data / WiFi requirements.

Eventually for us, Quade’s Mum came up with a great idea which was to purchase a prepaid WiFi box with unlimited data to allow the freedom for Quade to watch as many films and YouTube clips of his favourite appliances with ease. This WiFi box was a necessity each time we entered the dreaded hospital when Quade got sick after chemo- it’s just a shame we didn’t think of it sooner!

Our goal is to raise some money that would pay for a years worth of WiFi in the children’s ward at Wollongong Hospital so parents don’t need to think about this and worry about the costs of data programs and can concentrate on what’s important .... making their kids comfortable whilst in hospital and ensuring their relaxed and focused on getting their health back in the right direction.

Every little dollar you can donate would be most appreciative to all patients at Wollongong and allow families one less concern on the quest for their little ones recovery - Lets give the kids their washing machines, vacuum cleaners and fans!

Note: we believe refurbishments are planned and wifi could be coming in the future ... if we can raise a little money we will hopefully be able to get in temporary measures until that’s done
