My name is Jon, and on July 6th, 2025, my wife, Meghan Mathis, was slain by what is believed to be a drunk driver while on her way home from late birthday celebrations. She was driving on I-495 in the toll lanes when this person hit her head-on, as they were traveling the wrong direction on I-495.

Meghan and I's story began in 2008 when we met very briefly at a small-town concert I had played with a coming-of-age garage band of friends. Meghan came out to this show, and we happened to bump into each other, and a ton of flirting began immediately. Sadly, however, my attention was pulled away, and she ended up having a small emergency pop up, having to leave. For years, I would find myself daydreaming about this woman; however, in those days, it wasn't nearly as easy to find someone as it is now, especially with only a first name.

In 2014, I noticed one of my friends talking with a girl, and it was about a date via Facebook comments. Then I saw her and immediately clicked on her profile. I simply couldn't let it happen; I had to do everything in my power to be the one on that date, and it turns out all it took was a Facebook message, as she had been thinking about me all of those years as well. We had planned to meet on my birthday, A Friday. I made reservations for us, though we would never make it to them as my 24/7 on-call job, of course, ruined these plans a mere fifteen minutes after she pulled into my driveway. Meghan had traveled a hundred miles and almost three hours to get there that night, and I had to tell her she could leave if she wanted to, but I would really like it if she stayed. Thankfully, she stayed. I left this technically total stranger in my home as I was off to do my job as fast as I could. While I was doing said job, I was rushing and got a gash in my forehead which definitely required stitches. I had to call this beautiful soul and tell her we had to go to the hospital and all of our plans were bust, or so I thought; she told me to swing back by my house and she'd stitch me up. I didn't ask any questions, and she fixed me right up.

By the time everything was done, not only had we missed our reservations, but the only thing open was the local Denny's, and it was still the most magnificent first date one could have. What was planned as her staying the night to drive back the next morning turned into us avoiding all responsibilities until Wednesday morning and not leaving each other's sides. A year later, she transferred colleges from the Corcoran to Towson and had moved in. We spent the next half a decade slowly building a life together before finally choosing to get married in 2019. Our 6th anniversary just passed on May 16th.

Meghan was a globally published photographer and model, still studying psychology in hopes of truly being able to help people in the near future. She was a magnificent stepmother and ran an animal rescue. Meghan was hands down the best human being I have ever met, and her life was struck down so savagely short, at only 32. Through the last couple of years, Meghan has been the breadwinner in our household after I was injured on the job and all but had to relearn to walk. On top of the grief this tragedy has brought, I also have immense stress about the future without her, my best friend and soulmate.

I am asking for your donations to help with funeral costs, other final affairs, attorney/legal fees, general expenses as I find solid ground, and whatever other curveballs the world decides to throw our way. I thank you for your time in reading this and hope you have a blessed day.
