Tracie suffered a bi-lateral stroke during her surgery for MoyaMoya. The purpose of the surgery is increase blood flow to the brain to prevent strokes. Tracie was very apprehensive about the corrective surgery but was reassured this indirect process was the best path to prevent any future strokes and was low risk. During the surgery, the surgeon came out and reported all went well after each phase of the surgery was complete; this was 10+ hours of surgery. Approximately Four hours after the surgery was complete while waiting to see Tracie in recovery, the staff reported that Tracie had a stroke at some point during the surgery and was being put on a ventilator due to being unresponsive. After 10 days in the ICU, Tracie finally had some responsiveness from verbal stimulus during the doctors review. The surgeon reported the MRI showed a bi-lateral stroke affecting her facial muscles (unable to eat or speak) , upper body, mostly arms and hands and potential impact on motivation/drive due to some frontal damage. God has already blessed her waking up to the point of some responsiveness, the next step is letting the brain heal in the journey to recovery. Tracie is a bright spirit and has done so much for so many, my wish for her is a full recovery; she is a fighter. She loves her work with the City of Kansas City and has always been an advocate for the community. I believe with enough time she will recover from this, only God knows the timeframe. We appreciate any generosity to help with medical bills and cost of living while Tracie is recovering. Thank you for any help and especially your prayers. May God bless you.
