Widows & Orphans Weekly Food Program

Thank you for taking a moment to look at our cause.  The women and children pictured here are from a small suburb in Kitale, in the Kwanza division in Province Kenya, Africa.  They are in desperate need of your help and financial support.

These widows and children have already endured a lot and need food and encouragement to help them survive.  The villagers here were gravely affected by the violence within their country after the elections in 2007-2008.  As a result, many of these people live on less than a dollar ($1.00) per day and need financial support  and encouragement to keep going. 

Because of the frustration of their situation, many turned to a life of alcohol and many women turned to  prostitution to pay for the food on their table for their children.  This resulted in an outbreak of deaths and many more infected by HIV leaving these  little children behind with no help and no where to turn. 

Through the help of Pastor David Wikoli and his wife, Ruth Wikoli, these children have a place to get food and help, but this couple cannot support them all.  Pastor David founded a ministry called, Ebenezer International Gospel Church,in 2009 in order to help eleviate the heartache and suffering these families are going through.  It is through their organization that the women and children are being supported on a weekly basis.   They are currently supporting 50 widows and 40 children, that's almost 100 mouths to feed every week!!  The needs are too much for this couple and even this small community to support, so we are asking for your help.

Pastor David has a plan to help support these women through not only their weekly feeding program, but through establishing community gardens whereas these women and children can learn to farm and grow their own food sources.   Pastor David has already leased 10 acres of land to get this started, but this is just the beginning.  They need the tools: seeds, shovels, and most importantly, an established irrigation system to maintain these gardens properly.   This all costs money and every donation they receive goes to make sure this dream becomes a reality for their community.

Many of these women are past the age to work in their workforce but can maintain their gardens and help sell the surplus to make additional income.  The children can help do the same and work with these women.  As they continue to work together, their goal is to use the surplus to purchase chickens and livestock. 

The fundraising goal is $3,000.00 to help support them over the next 6 months.  Through your donations they will use it wisely to to help continue feeding the widows and children, share the good news and help them establish their community with the gardens, poultry and livestock.  The amount we are asking for is pennies per day for these people.  Over 6 months, it actually breaks down to approximately $.25 per day per person.   This is going straight to the people and not through a huge organization.  Your contributions will definitely bring hope and nourishment to these beautiful people.
