On May 6, 2017 my niece became a widow.
Nick Carnes 32 is survived by his loving wife Heather Carnes, four year old Hadley and 11 month old Kylee. His tragic accident has taken him from our loving family. Nick was a wonderful, kind young man with a heart of gold. He always had a story to tell or a trick to fix anything pertaining to a car, computers or cell phones. There wasn’t a question you couldn’t pose to Nick that he didn’t have random knowledge of. He had so many facts and answers for almost any question you could consider. Nick was quick to smile and crack a joke. His laugh was infectious and he was always helping others with no questions asked. Nick was Heather’s best friend, a loving father, and a wonderful friend to all that knew him. He gave with good intent and would encourage those around him. Nick was a short fella but to his children he was 10 feet tall. They adored their father and the look of sheer happiness in 11 month old Kylee’s eyes as her “dada” came in the room would melt anyone’s heart. His four year old has been brave but is starting to feel the pain of missing someone so irreplaceable in her life. The nights are becoming longer and the questions harder to answer for her mother. Kylee will be turning one in two weeks without the loving, physical embrace of her father. He will be watching and protecting her from afar but always in her heart.
This tragedy has been so terribly devastating and sudden; words cannot describe the pain felt by our entire family. As a family, we are reaching out to the community and our friends for help because now all financial responsibility to support Hadley and Kylee fall solely on Heather. These needs are immediate and long-term, burying a loved one is not limited to the funeral expenses alone. Everywhere Heather turns, there is something that she couldn’t have anticipated that now has to be paid for on half of the family’s income. We are a prideful family but we also know sometimes it takes a village to help raise a family. Help us restore faith in humanity while, at the same time, helping Heather and her girls. Let's rally around this family and truly make a difference - any little bit will help. We call on everyone near and far to share this plea.
