Hi everyone. My name is Leanne Burnham and I am opening this fundraising for my sister-in-law, Angel. Angel is a light to everyone who meets her. She always has been. She is a fantastic mother and a devoted friend. She is a giver, and now we want to help her.
6 years ago, Angel was first diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. She underwent 6 months of chemo followed by a double mastectomy. A week after her hospital release, her husband John of 20 years contracted COVID-19 and was in a coma on life support. He coded twice. He had to live in rehab for months and learn how to walk, talk, and eat again. During those trying months, Angel remained camped outside of John's hospital window praying and singing for his healing and recovery day in and day out. She refused to give up hope because she desperately needed her husband to come home for their 2 kids, John Ramon and Kara. Their journey was captured by the local news https://www.cleveland19.com/2020/08/11/akron-man-with-covid-fighting-his-life-same-hospital-his-wife-was-just-treated-breast-cancer/ .
John did come home and fought to regain the strength to live a normal life. He struggled with long hauler syndrome and while watching a basketball game from the comfort of his home last January, John died of sudden cardiac arrest. Angel's worst fear came true. She had to learn how to live without John. She had to be the greatest support to her children who had already been through so much.
As life slowly adjusted to their new "normal", Angel felt a pain in her side while working out at the gym. A trip to the ER revealed a mass on her liver. The breast cancer had spread to her liver and metastasized. On that horrible day, her doctor told us "I'm sorry there's no cure for this".
Never one to give up, Angel sought medical opinions from several oncologists throughout the country. After several roadblocks, she landed at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas--the #1 cancer center in the nation. For the last 2 years, she has bravely made the decision to enroll in several clinical trials and defied all odds. While promising at first, each treatment eventually stopped working. But we have hope!
Angel has recently been approved to participate in a cutting edge global solid tumor therapy at ICCA Global Cancer Centers. In order to receive this intense and expensive treatment, Angel will need to devote considerable time traveling back and forth to Mexico. She is unable to work right now as she continues to focus on surviving and healing which requires every bit of support that we can offer her.
If you can find it in your heart to donate, you'll be helping ensure our Angel gets the support she needs during this fight so that she can continue to be the best mother to John Ramon and Kara. We would be so grateful for any amount you can give. So please, let's rally around Angel who means the world to us. With your help, we can be there for Angel just as she's always been there for us.
With love,
