Why Not Russ? Help give him a fresh start

Hi Friends
Some of you may already be aware that we have taken in and have been caring for our neighborhood stray cat for the past couple of weeks. The past 2 years or so we had always assumed he was someone's outdoor cat who just really liked hanging around our driveway. But sadly it has become apparent that he was in fact a cat that someone had left behind. I am not sure what the back story is, and I honestly don't care to know at this point. All I do know is that he was skin and bones from starvation, suffering from dehydration and has been toughing it out through some extremely painful dental issues. We are getting him his much needed medical care now from the extremely wonderful staff at the Cat Clinic in Cathedral City, CA. He wont have to suffer in pain on the streets any more. My kids gave him the name Russ named after a great example of positivity, strength and resilience, Russell Wilson.
Here is where I humble myself and ask for support. We attempted to reach out to several cat rescues. But with the influx of pets due to Covid related surrenders they are unable to help. We are keeping him with us until he is healthy and we can find him the perfect indoor forever home. The medical care Russ needs is much more than we had planned for in this financially challenging year of 2020. We are facing vet bills between $3400-$3800. And while we are committed to make it happen for Russ no matter what, we are reaching out to see if any of our friends, family or neighbors may want to help by donating anything you can to give this dude a chance at a healthy fresh start. This is foreign to Keith and I. We have never taken in an animal off the street, let alone one that was in such distress. But for some reason we feel compelled to do this. With all the craziness happening in the world it just feels like the right thing to do no doubt. We are grateful for anything you are able to give , even if all you can give are good vibes and good wishes for his next healthy loving chapter
(PS, look at him holding my arm while I sip wine and watch football... come on! The Perfect Cat!)
