This is my amazing friend Whitney Carlisle. On July 3, 2012 she was involved in a catastrophic car accident when her car was hit head on by a careless driver. Whitney was life-flighted to Atlanta Medical Center in critical condition with numerous broken bones, internal injuries, and a traumatic brain injury. She underwent surgery and spent spent 2 months in ICU before being transferred to WellStar where she remained in ICU for another 2 months on the ventilator. Once stable enough, she was transferred to WellStar's Long-Term Care facility for rehabilitation and to eventually wean her from the ventilator. From there she was transferred to Shepard Spinal Center where she stayed for 6 months to recieve more in-depth rehabilitation and further assitance dealing with her traumatic brain injury. Whitney was able to return home briefly until she encountered complications from her injuries and spent another month at Kennestone in ICU and then transferred once again to Shepard's for 6 months for futher rehab. Once able to return home from rehabilitation, she still had to endure numerous surgeries and hospitalizations to repair her legs and arm that were crushed in the accident. Now, a year and a half later, Whitney continues to improve and undergoes physical therapy 3 days a week.
Prior to the accident, Whitney was a successful Registered Dietitian and was considered one of the best in the field. She has also been a loyal friend to everyone she knows and has always put others ahead of herself.
Now, she is permanently disabled and requires 24 hour assistance. Her only source of income is Worker's Compensation. All other sources of income and finances have been exhausted. Whitney is now at a difficult crossroad where her monthly income from Workers Comp is unable to cover her basic living expenses. And to further complicate her situation, her medical insurance was cancelled and she is now paying out of pocket for her daily diabetes medications and supplies. Any donations would be greatly appreciated! Please feel free to share with your friends on Facebook.
