Mikey White Quills (Quill'zy) of Kainai Nation suddenly went on to the spirit world to be with his father on April 15, 2024 in Edmonton, Alberta. Mikey has been battling cancer for the past few years. Mikey leaves behind his wife Shona Medicine Shield and their 5 children Kessel, Emery, Leah, Natalia and Tayson. Mikey also leaves behind many friends and family. Mikey was passionate about hockey, rodeo and coaching. Both Mikey's children currently play elite hockey and his hockey talent is exemplified in his children’s hockey skills and as a coach. Last year Mikey coached the Siksika Buffalos (seniors AA), winning 1st place in the regular season and playoffs in the Ranchland Hockey League and winning second place in Alberta provincials. Last year he also won coach of the year (2022-2023) for the RHL. Growing up Mikey played elite hockey in the KIJHL, Kainai Chiefs, South West Rockies, Lomond Lakers and Siksika Buffalos. Mikey was also passionate about rodeo and traveled near and far to compete in tie down calf roping. Throughout the years he won many titles while on the rodeo trail (Canada & USA).
All fundraising proceeds will go to his wife and his 5 children to help support memorial items, hockey fees and basic necessities. Shona will be the main provider for her children and all contributions will also support Mikey’s dreams of his children carrying on his legacy through hockey. Elite hockey can be very expensive and this will greatly assist his family as he was one of their greatest supporters.
His family and friends are deeply sadden by the loss of Mikey and he will be greatly missed.
Thank you all for the support, prayers and words of encouragement during this difficult time. </3
