White Collar Boxing - At Risk Youth
Donation protected
On April 7, Sven 'Doc of All Trades' Svenson will enter the squared circle one last time to raise money for WHIPYIT: At Risk and Underprivileged Youth and Evans Legacy: Brain Tumour Foundation.
As a sociologist who teaches the sociology of youth and who has worked with at-risk youth as a Big Brother and as a former outdoor education instructor, I value the work that Fitz 'The Whip' Vanderpool does mentoring youth in this community. As a precarious academic worker I also understand the increasingly precarious work environments that young people are entering and the need to address the economic conditions that lead to unstable lives. When I step into the ring on April 7, I will be representing precarious workers of Waterloo Region.
My good friend Stephen Markan has generously donated $500 to cover the costs of the training, sanctioning fee, doctor's exams and equipment. The total cost is $1000. We've set a goal of $4000 that will go towards sponsoring underprivileged and at-risk youth. If we reach this goal Stephen will match his initial $500 and cover my costs. If not, I'll be happy to not only put my body on the line but pony up the $500.
Let's give the kids a fighting chance!!!
