Right now, our college community is worried about sudden enforcement actions happening across the city. Small, inexpensive whistles and short resource kits (contact information for legal aid, “know your rights” information, and emergency numbers) have been used by neighborhood groups in Chicago to alert and summon support for community members in distress. Reuters recently covered how communities have adopted whistles as a peaceful tool to raise alarm and draw witnesses.

I’m raising funds to purchase and distribute whistles and community resource kits to City Colleges staff, student leaders, and frontline campus workers who want them. This is a safety-and-solidarity project — not a political campaign. The items will be distributed on campus through student government and staff channels, accompanied by printed legal-aid contact cards and info on where to get free legal help and know-your-rights materials.

What your donation will buy:
• A durable whistle (compact, plastic) — used as a simple audible alert.
• A small printed card with local legal-aid phone numbers, campus safety contacts, and trusted community resource links.
• A small fund for connections with local legal partners (printing or outreach costs).

Why this matters:
• It’s about immediate safety: a quick way to attract attention, gather witnesses, and connect people to help.
• It’s a low-cost, community-led measure led by students and staff who care deeply about our campus neighbors.
• All distribution will be voluntary: we will only give kits to staff or students who ask for one.

How we’ll run this responsibly:
• This project is strictly for peaceful, community safety purposes.
• Kits will include contact information for local legal aid and “know your rights” resources so people can get trained, lawful advice.
• Distribution will be confidential and coordinated through official student/staff channels to protect privacy.

Transparency & timeline:
• Goal: $2,200 (see breakdown below). If we exceed the goal, extra funds will go to more kits and printed legal resources.
• Distribution planned within 1–2 weeks after the campaign (via campus pickup points and staff contacts).
• I’ll post regular updates here on GoFundMe with receipts and photos of public distribution events (no personal identifying photos).

Thank you for supporting a safer campus community. Your gift — however small — will help staff and students feel more supported and better connected to resources.
