THE STORY
A tragedy that shook Fortitude Valley to its foundations, ‘Whiskey Au Go Go’ explores the firebombing of the Whiskey Au Go Go nightclub on the 8th of March, 1973. New evidence revealed from a recent inquest into the case has firmly landed this story back in the limelight, inspiring conversation about this pivotal moment of Brisbane’s cultural identity.
The team behind ‘Whiskey Au Go Go’ aims to recreate the events that occurred on this night through a combination of live-action filming and virtual production. All proceeds will help bring this vision to life by funding art department, costuming, hair and makeup, on-set catering, and visual effects.
THE CREW
Writer - Kevin Abeywardane
A relative newcomer to Brisbane, Kevin has an intense passion for the documentation of historical events. He has written several short films and works as a tour guide in his spare time, educating visitors and locals alike on Brisbane's history. It was during one of these tours that he discovered the Whiskey Au Go Go firebombing and incited this documentary.
Writer & Producer - Riley Thew
Having worked on several award-winning short films, Riley is an experienced writer and producer. He is passionate about telling unique and informative stories, particularly those that are significant to the Brisbane/Meanjin area in which he grew up.
Producer - Indigo Corben
There is nothing more interesting to Indigo than delving into the mysteries of the past and bringing them life on the big screen. With recent media attention focusing on the Whiskey Au Go Go fire, it seems that there is definitely more to this story that Indigo cannot wait to discover.
Director - Sean Grace
Sean has a considerable amount of directorial experience, achieved both through his work at QUT and his own production company, Broken Clock Films. He brings this familiarity with short form filmmaking to 'Whiskey Au Go Go', as well as an eagerness to investigate the events that occurred on the 8th of March, 1973.
