Dear community,
While most 9-year-olds are dreaming of new phones, bikes, or birthday parties…
Makayla just wants a home.
Her 6-year-old brother, Abraham, wishes for a soft bed and dinner at a kitchen table with his mom.
These two beautiful children are currently homeless in San Mateo County. They aren’t asking for luxuries—just the most basic human need: a safe place to live and time with the person they love most.
Their devoted mom works double shifts every single day, doing everything in her power to care for her kids. She recently made the brave decision to leave an unstable and unsafe home in order to protect her children and start fresh. Since then, they’ve been living in and out of motels, shelters, and sometimes even their car.
Even though she works nonstop, the cost of housing in the Bay Area is overwhelming.
The family has applied for affordable housing, but like so many others, they’ve been met with long waitlists and closed programs. They’ve done everything right—but still have nowhere to go.
Makayla doesn’t ask for much.
She dreams of having her own room, a quiet space to draw, and evenings where her mom isn’t working late but sitting beside her, helping with homework.
Abraham just wants to line up his toy cars without having to pack them away each night in a bag.
We are raising $12,000 to help this family finally secure safe, stable housing and bring their simple, powerful dream to life.
Your support will go directly toward:
• First and last month’s rent: $6,000
• Security deposit: $1,500
• Basic furniture (beds, table, shelves): $2,000
• Groceries and essentials: $1,000
• Utilities and emergency costs: $1,500
Even a $5 donation can help buy a warm meal or a few days of groceries.
Every act of generosity, no matter how small, brings this family closer to home.
If you can give, please do.
If you can’t, please share their story. You never know who might be the one to help make their dream come true.
Together, we can show Makayla and Abraham that while life has been unfair, love, community, and kindness still exist.
Thank you for being part of their journey.
