Jenai is 27 years old and has been dealing with serious illness since the age of 3 when she was diagnosed with diabetes.
Unfortunately she has been through more then most would in a lifetime at 27... she has been through vision loss, muscle deterioration, many many procedures and taken it all in stride very positively. The big blow was kidney failure! Jenai had only 8% left of her kidney function between the two kidneys. She was put on peritoneal dialysis requiring 10 hours a day hooked to a machine just to stay alive while waiting to be put on the transplant list for a kidney and a pancreas.
Well we got the call 1:30 am a couple weeks ago a donor had come up and we needed to get Jenai to Edmonton as soon as we could so by 3:00 am she was on the road and had surgery the next day.
Where we stand now... her pancreas has taken perfectly and she no longer requires insulin injections. Meaning for the first time since she was 3 she isn’t a diabetic! She also received a new kidney and it has been a little more stubborn and due to some internal bleeding and complications, she required a second surgery. The kidney is looking better now and doctors are very optimistic.
Jenais recovery is extensive and long. She will be in the hospital at least another month and her head transplant doctor has told her she has to remain in Edmonton for another 6 months after her release from the hospital and requires a family member with her at all times to help with her recovery. Jenai, her parents (Craig and Teresa King) and her siblings permanently work and reside in Grande Prairie. Therefore Jenai needs to find a residence to rent in Edmonton and family members will be travelling to and from Grande Prairie to stay with Jenai, while having to take time off of their occupations.
A transplant is not something you know when is coming but when it does it’s the most amazing thing. However with that is a huge financial output. If you feel like you would like to be a part of Jenai's recovery financially thank you in advance. And if not that’s ok! Please keep her in your prayers regardless. She’s a fighter and she’s going to come Out of this!!!
