#whereUfrom 2020 Holiday Food Drive: Uptown, NYC

A local food drive for the people, by the people. Sponsored by Meals on Us .

donSMITH , a local Uptown artist, is teaming up with Meals on Us to provide food for families in need this Holiday Season. Set up throughout various points in Uptown, New York, donSMITH’s goal is to bring awareness to the financial struggles of millions of New Yorkers due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, donSMITH will be donating the first month’s sales of his brand-new album, "Don't Ask Me Where I'm From" directly to Meals on Us, as they continue to feed those in need throughout New York City.

Why a Food Drive - “The fastest way to a person’s heart is through food”

Did you know that in NY about 1 in 10 households suffer from food insecurity. That number is astonishing. During hard times, like these, more and more families struggle to know where their next meal will come from. With the help of the expert team at Meals on Us, we hope this Holiday season we can help many families have quality food & resources going into the New Year.

Where to Donate in Person -Raw Gallery NYC (Bronx, NY), 168th Street Armory  (Washington Heights, NY), Cliff 41 Studio (Harlem, NY)

How Else Can You Help - If you cannot donate money or food in person or are just interested in helping out further, there is a free and easy solution; please share this campaign with 10 of your friends! IG Story, Facebook, E-Mail, Text… let everyone know what we got going on. We never know where our next donor can come from!

About donSMITH & the #DAMWIF Album:

donSMITH is a 27 year old Harlem-bred artist and storyteller, illustrating the harsh realities and triumphs of his black and brown culture. Initially a producer and musician, donSMITH began to focus on the lyrical aspect of music when entering his freshman year at college. Eventually releasing his first EP, the Harlem emcee performed all over New York City, including The Knitting Factory, Bowery Electric, National Sawdust & more. donSMITH strives to create art that reflects the beauty birthed by struggle, trials with finding god, and cultural evaporation. Raw vulnerability and soulful storytelling are the backbone of donSMITH’s artistry, aiming to breed hope and fellowship among listeners, no matter where they are from.

"Don't Ask Me Where I'm From" is the soulful and culturally articulate full length from donSMITH, entirely produced by Zoomo, a soul sampler buzzing amongst the underground hip-hop scene. donSMITH proclaims his cultural pride and  commitment to his city and community, boldly emphasizing a central theme: for us, by us.

Meals on Us is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to providing food services to the homeless & hungry and eliminating food waste throughout New York City and its surrounding areas. Since the conception of Meals on Us, we have fed thousands and have rescued over 5,000 pounds of food!

Meals on Us was founded by Matthew Rogers, Munoz Price & Ethan Felizzari. Each of our founders has contributed to various homeless organizations throughout the years and decided in early 2019 to form their own organization. One of the biggest inspirations for Ethan Felizzari, a director & producer, and Matthew Rogers, a salesman,  was their very own co-founder, Munoz Price.

Having been Homeless himself, Munoz felt the most important thing (other than having a roof over his head)

was having a hot meal to help him function throughout the day. “It’s never easy to be Homeless, or to live on the streets; but try functioning on an empty stomach. It's impossible to complete a task when your stomach is speaking louder than your voice," Munoz says. He never forgot receiving hot meals and other assistance from Soup Kitchens. They helped him thrive during his period of Homelessness. So, he has decided to dedicate his life to feeding the Homeless.

Munoz's passion has opened doors for him to feed the Homeless and counsel them in various Boroughs in the

Tri-State area.

Munoz and the team at Meals on Us not only hope to feed all homeless individuals, but they hope to provide referrals for those seeking shelter, and other services that may empower those who are underserved.
