Help Us Turn a School Bus Into a Beacon of Hope!
On a day we’ll never forget, our lives changed forever. In May 2025, my wife, my best friend, and my soulmate, Jo Jo, was diagnosed with Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer.
There was no early-stage diagnosis. No warning. From the very beginning, we were told she was facing the fight of her life.
Those words changed everything. Like so many couples, we had spent years talking about “someday.” Someday we’d retire. Someday we’d buy an RV. Someday we’d travel, make memories, and spend more time with our children and grandchildren.
Then cancer reminded us that tomorrow isn’t promised.
After chemotherapy, radiation, surgeries, countless doctor visits, and treatments that continue today, we made a decision: We weren’t going to wait for someday anymore.
Instead of letting cancer define our story, we’re determined to write a different ending—one filled with hope, purpose, and encouragement for others.
Meet “Where’s Jo Jo? – The Pink Bus”
What started as an idea quickly became a mission. We purchased a retired school bus and are transforming it into “The Where’s Jo Jo - The Pink Bus” —a traveling home and awareness vehicle that will allow Jo Jo to safely travel while continuing treatment.
Our goal is to spend 31 days traveling through Alabama, Georgia, and Florida, attending breast cancer awareness walks, races, fundraisers, and community events.
Along the way, we’ll share Jo Jo’s story, encourage women to get screened (and men), support families walking this difficult road, and remind every person we meet that hope is stronger when it’s shared.
This isn’t just about our journey. It’s about every person whose life has been touched by breast cancer.
Why We’re Asking for Help??
We purchased the bus using my retirement savings because we believed this mission was worth pursuing. Now we’re in the middle of a 90-day bus conversion. At the same time, cancer has dramatically changed our finances.
Because of her illness, Jo Jo had to stop working, resulting in the loss of a significant portion of our household income and one of our best health insurance coverages.
Changes at my job have added additional financial strain while we continue managing medical expenses and preparing the bus for the road.
We’re not asking for luxury. We’re just asking for the opportunity to make the most of the time we’ve been given.
