Hello everyone,
My name is Caroline MacKeen, and I’m completing my final year of Film Production at York University. For my graduating project, I’m creating Where We Left Off—a short film about the fragile ties between a mother and daughter.
This film follows Maeve, a middle-aged woman who, after years of estrangement, discovers her mother, Frances, is rapidly declining and no longer recognizes her. Wanting to be close, Maeve quietly takes on the role of caretaker, moving through her mother’s home unseen. As she tidies, listens, and observes Frances’ fragmented memories, Maeve confronts long-held guilt, missed chances, and the fragile threads that still bind them. Where We Left Off is a tender exploration of memory, identity, and the quiet ways love endures, even when recognition fades.
I was drawn to creating this story because memory and family are things we so often take for granted, until they begin to fade. Making this film is my way of honouring the complicated, tender relationships between parents and children—the ones that shape us even when words go unspoken.
We’re aiming to raise $2,500 to bring this project to life, covering essentials like locations, equipment, makeup, transportation, and meals for our hardworking cast and crew. Every donation, no matter the size, helps us share this story with care.
Thank you so much for supporting me in telling a story that is close to my heart. Even if you can’t donate, sharing this campaign would mean the world.
With gratitude,
Caroline
