"When The Music Fades" Musical Short Film

My name is Johnny Moon and I am directing a musical short film called "When the Music Fades." WTMF is a coming-of-age story about Emily, a talented pianist who lives in doubt of her talents due her mother's constant discouragement. A chance encounter with a deaf drummer Josiah gives her unexpected strength to live out her passions as she was meant to be. 

We all have a bit of Emily in our own stories. How often have you wondered whether or not you are currently on the right path? For me, I have those doubts even today. I wonder every day if I'm cut out to be in the field of filmmaking. This is especially dangerous for people in the arts: various voices from all directions- including our own- which constantly berate and discourage us from making art.

This film is an affirmation to all artists and non-artists alike who need that gentle reminder: 'Yes, you are on the right path. No one can tell you otherwise.' 

This project is run by a small crew and cast of 20+ hardworking undergraduate students. Written, filmed, and edited by students, this project is a celebration of all of our collective filmmaking skills that we have gathered throughout our valuable time here at UC Riverside. 

In addition to the filmmakers, we worked with an UCR music major to create 4 original musical pieces performed by our very own, multi-talented actors. This is truly a collaboration of both film, theatre, and music departments of UC Riverside.
