When in Doubt

Donation protected

Polarization is at an all-time high, and people won't talk with each other.

We are plagued by
-Political partisanship
-COVID-19
-Economic despair
-Racial tensions

Productive dialogue is the only way through all of these problems.

When in Doubt is a film about the importance of difficult conversations and the benefits of doubt. The film The Social Dilemma painted a vivid picture of our current division, and we are attempting to offer solutions to it.

Check out our proof of concept!

We're losing friendships due to political differences, and families are being torn apart by disagreements. It is now more important than ever to learn how to speak productively with those across ideological divides.

We are raising funds to complete our film, which will offer techniques for having improving conversations and will investigate what ideology does to our discourses.
We will be working with Peter Boghossian, the author of How to Have Impossible Conversations, as he coaches our documentary subjects to show accessible, real-world examples of conversational reform.

In addition to Peter, we will have many more voices offering advice on how to improve conversation. Daryl Davis is one such voice.

Daryl has had some of the most impossible conversations. He is the first black man to write a book on the KKK, which is based on all of the conversations he had with Klan members.

Amazingly, over 200 people left the Klan after talking with Daryl, and he is sharing his wisdom through this film.

One of our primary goals is to remind us of our shared humanity and strengthen our connections to one another.

We will be exploring the techniques in the book How to Have Impossible Conversations by having our subjects try them out in real time with Peter's help.

We made a proof of concept with documentary subjects Jim and Anya (pictured below). This will be released on Day 11 of the campaign. It shows these tools in action and what the process will be like to for future subjects who want to improve their dialogues and relationships.

A contribution to this project is a contribution to our social well-being. We need to fix the dilemma we are in; we all need healing. This film is an attempt to heal our divide, and we need your help to do it.
