When the Cows Come Home to Roost

Christmas Day carries may traditions both secular and spiritual, but for Jewish families there’s only one right way to observe: with a movie and Chinese food. The Shechter family plans on doing exactly that, convening all three living generations of the family at one table. But when Lila, the granddaughter, brings her atheist boyfriend along, order slowly spins out of control. Exploring themes of generational trauma, latent antisemitism, homophobia, and inter-sectionalism, When the Cows Come Home to Roost flips the classic dysfunctional family trope on its head through a slapstick farce that will leave you ready for seconds.

Untitled Theater Company at UCLA plans to produce the world premiere production of the play in April 2023. As a student theater company, all expenses such as costumes, scenic elements, marketing, and venue costs must be covered by the organization. These funds will be used to cover the production budget, as well as outreach to different Jewish student groups at UCLA to get them involved and aware of the production.
