Right now, the volunteer firefighters of Vagos, Portugal are putting their lives on the line as wildfires and floods tear through our country. They are fathers, mothers, sons, and daughters — ordinary people with full-time jobs — who drop everything to run toward the flames when their community needs them most. They do this not for pay, not for recognition, but out of pure love and duty to protect the people and land they call home.

But these heroes are fighting without the tools they need. Their firetrucks are breaking down, their firehouse is in desperate need of repairs, and much of their equipment is outdated or unusable. Even with so little, they continue to show up, risking their lives with every fire they face.

They shouldn’t have to fight this battle alone. With your help, we can give them the equipment, repairs, and support they need to keep saving lives. São pais, mães, filhos e filhas — pessoas comuns com empregos a tempo inteiro — que largam tudo para correr em direção às chamas sempre que a comunidade precisa. Fazem isto não por dinheiro, não por reconhecimento, mas por puro amor e dever de proteger as pessoas e a terra que chamam de casa.

Mas estes heróis estão a lutar sem as ferramentas de que necessitam. Os camiões estão constantemente a avariar, o quartel precisa urgentemente de reparações e muito do equipamento já está desatualizado ou inutilizável. Mesmo com tão pouco, continuam a aparecer, a arriscar a vida em cada fogo que enfrentam.

Eles não deviam travar esta batalha sozinhos. Com a sua ajuda, podemos dar-lhes o equipamento, as reparações e o apoio que tanto precisam para continuar a salvar vidas. My name is Jessica Neves. I am from Toronto, born in Portugal. Canada has helped me become a Civil Engineer, keep me safe, and let me live a wonderful life. I am trying to give back to my hometown that is currently suffering with floods as well as wildfires in the summer. I was touched to meet the heroes that risk their lives everyday to keep the people safe, and all out of the goodness of their hearts, since they are volunteers!
