Sometimes life doesn't just throw you a curveball — it hits you like a brick wall. Without warning, everything you thought you knew about tomorrow changes, leaving you wondering how life could turn upside down so quickly.
For Terry and Mary Ann, that moment came in August when Terry was diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia. Suddenly, the life they knew was filled with uncertainty, difficult treatments, and a future neither could have imagined. They're now facing a battle they never saw coming — one they shouldn't have to face alone.
A Lifetime of Service to Others: Terry dedicated over 32 years to protecting and serving his community through law enforcement, while Mary Ann proudly served our country for five years in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War.
Both have spent much of their lives answering the call when others needed them. Now, they find themselves needing the same kindness and compassion they've shown to so many.
Terry Is Facing the Fight of His Life!
Since his diagnosis, Terry has been undergoing chemotherapy five days each month at the cancer center in Traverse City, along with weekly blood draws and transfusions. He has also been evaluated at the University of Michigan and placed on a donor list for a stem cell transplant.
Once a suitable donor is found, Terry will face at least 30 days in the hospital, followed by an additional 90 days of required recovery and monitoring near Ann Arbor. Mary Ann, his wife and patient advocate, will be by his side throughout this journey.
Between ongoing treatments, repeated eight-hour round trips to the University of Michigan, and the prospect of spending months away from home, the expenses for medical care, travel, lodging, meals, and everyday household needs are quickly adding up.
Why We're Asking for Your Help: Family and friends have always been at the heart of Terry and Mary Ann's lives, but their grandchildren hold a special place that words can hardly describe. Nothing brings them more joy than time spent together, making memories and simply enjoying the people they love.
Now, instead of planning their next visit or family gathering, they're left wondering when they'll see those familiar faces again and what time together will look like during Terry's treatment and recovery.
The hardest part isn't just facing the unknown — it's the precious time they may miss with those they love most.
As their family, we can't take away the challenges ahead, but we can help ease the burden. Terry and Mary Ann's children, together with their large and loving extended family, have come together to create this fundraiser so they can focus on Terry's health, his recovery, and the moments that matter most.
Whether through a donation, sharing their story, or keeping them in your thoughts and prayers, every act of kindness matters.
From all of us who love Terry and Mary Ann, thank you for the kindness, generosity, and compassion you've shown as they navigate this difficult road. Your support means more than words can express.
