On June 15, 2015, Wayne Harrison, Building Trades Instructor at Portage Lakes Career Center (PLCC), started his morning like he did so many years on summer break by helping a friend with a construction project. In just an instant, a fall from an eight foot ladder would leave Wayne with a spinal injury and permanently paralyzed from the chest down.
Wayne has an amazing outlook and inner strength as he and his wife adjust to a new way of life. He continues to remain extremely positive and is determined to return to his teaching position at PLCC one day.
Despite Waynes positive attitude, there is still concern about the mounting medical bills from the accident, and he is now in deperate need of a wheelchair accessible van. The cost to rent a wheelchair accessible van for just a weekend is $250.
Wayne has not only been an awesome teacher at PLCC but a wonderful mentor and role model for the students who have gone through his Building Trades program. In order to address Waynes immediate need of suitable transportation, a group of co-workers have formed "TEAM WAYNE", and invite you to join us in doing all that we can to welcome Wayne back.
