Wheels for a Teacher
This is a story about my sister Sara and my request to you is simple: please help me "crowdfund" her into a reliable car. For the record, she is VERY uneasy about me doing this. (I'm still trying to talk her into it.) She knows that there are many, many people who are in "bad" shape out there. But frankly, I'm her sister and I believe that the time to give a bit to my big sister and hero is now.
And here's why:
Sara is kind, resourceful, uncomplaining and courageous. She is a public servant, unflinching in her dedication to the education of and love for the youngest students in the State of Oklahoma. She is a single mom and is the sole supporter of her family and household.
She is getting by, as most of us are. She is working hard, as most of us do. She is loved by many, many people and has touched generations of lives.
Two days ago, a ballot question that hopefully would have brought some additional funds to Oklahoma's teachers (ranked 48th in the nation in teacher pay in 2014) was defeated.
One day ago, my sister was the professional, loving, caring teacher she has been for 25 years and went above and beyond in her classroom to keep students safe and reassure them all that they are loved and respected.
That same day, her 'check engine' light came on in her 10-year old car that has over 155,000 miles on it.
Nobody has "enough" money, but we all have some. Just a little. Ten dollars? Tweny dollars? I started thinking last night, if all of us who have had our lives touched by Sara could contribute just a little, together we can get her into a reliable car. One she won't have to worry about. One that would be a stretch for her to currently afford. Nothing flashy, nothing fancy.
Sara is as worthy of our help as any person I know and I hope you can join me in helping in any way. Quite frankly, Sara deserves it. It's our turn to give just a little bit back to this amazing person. And this little sister would be so very, very grateful...
