Hi, I'm Allen White and I live in Hopedale IL, (pop.900). In 1992 I was in a serious car accident and was paralyzed from the chest down and have retained only limited use of my arms and hands. After two years of therapy I was able to adapt a van to my limitations and have been driving ever since. Being able to drive has helped me in many ways. It gives me the freedom to make me feel human again and also gives me a purpose in life. I give rides to needy people in the neighborhood on a daily basis. Everything from a ride to the store, to doctors appointments, to work, etc. It helps them almost as much as it helps me.

My current van is falling apart - literally - and has 325,000 miles on it. As you can see the doors have rusted and fallen off and it runs only when it wants to.  I am currently working on getting used doors put on. With winter coming and no other options available my friends and family suggested I start this account to see if I could get some financial assistance with the purchase of a newer vehicle. Although a standard stock van can be purchased for around $15,000, the alterations needed for me to continue driving could bring the cost upwards of $60,000. The floor needs be lowered, doors extended, ramps installed, hand controls installed etc.
