Wheels for Ayla

** Thank you so much for all the support so far! All additional support goes towards Ayla's continued rehabilitation therapy and to making her life more comfortable.**

Ayla is a sweet-natured girl who has faced many challenges and yet remains calm, inquisitive, loving and gentle. After an attack that resulted in amputation, intensive surgery and rehabilitation, this fund is to help give this lady the means to gain the stimulation, fun and physical strength she deserves. Please read her story below.

Ayla’s story
Alya was rescued from Romania aged 4 in February 2016. She had one eye and some deformity to her back legs having been hit by a car as a puppy and subsequently placed in a rehoming centre where she spent the first four years of her life, before making the journey to the UK where she adjusted well.

In August 2021, Ayla was attacked by another dog (untraceable) on public green space close to her home. She remained in good spirits despite her physical injuries and, after some uncertainty, surgery was offered as an option, so Ayla had her left back leg amputated and a femoral head and neck surgery on her right hip to make her right side strong enough to carry her. While dogs commonly adjust well to life on three legs, Ayla’s specific situation is very rare, having had the operation on her remaining hip, and her rehabilitation more intensive. This made it a risky choice that required careful monitoring of her wellbeing and quality of life as my top priority. But she deserved to be given a chance, and it has really paid off.

After an intensive four months, with exercises and care throughout the day, hydrotherapy and physiotherapy weekly or twice a week and medication, Ayla has calmly built confidence and can go on short walks with a rear support harness, and even walk about the garden without any support!

What your support will help with
Ayla has reached the point now where all the veterinary professionals who work with her agree that a set of wheels would give her more opportunity to increase strength using her back leg, while allowing her to go on longer walks, smell new smells and build confidence and independence. In addition to the wheels, she requires carpal supports to protect her front limbs from hyperextension and increased pressure, and a special new harness to support her from the rear, as her current one is on loan from her hydrotherapist.

Making this page is hard but any support is hugely appreciated and will help cover the costs of all of Ayla’s mobility aids. Any additional funds raised will support her with ongoing rehabilitation through weekly hydrotherapy and physiotherapy, plus medication and veterinary care, and a raised bed to ease pressure on her front limbs. I also hope to get her a dog buggy - the one pictured is on loan and she loves being driven around like a queen while her canine buddies walk alongside her, getting out at intervals for short walks. I also hope to
