Wheelin’ for Maury - it's GO time!
First and foremost, thank you to Maury and Kim’s friends and family who have found this site!!
As most of you know, over a month ago Maury was flown from Hawaii to a specialty rehabilitation center in Denver, Colorado for spinal injuries. On April 13th, while in Hawaii on a family vacation, Maury suffered a life changing spinal injury while jumping waves with his teenage sons. Maury experienced a T-2 burst fracture of his spine, broke a number of ribs and cracked some teeth after being hit by a rogue wave on Big Beach in Maui. He had a spinal fusion in Maui and after 2 weeks, he was transported to Craig Hospital in Denver for rehabilitation. Craig is known to be a vigorous facility that will teach Maury how to adjust to life as a paraplegic.
Maury has been one of the original members of Flying Irish Running Club. Runners are special people as we have that instant bond - the one that doesn’t need words - just being next to one another....and of course sharing a cold beer together. Maury needs an off-road wheelchair so he can continue participating in the active hobbies he has always enjoyed. It’s GO time, running community! It's GO time active hobby community!
However, that isn’t his only need. Many things are changing in Maury’s everyday life, and thankfully Kim has already moved into fast action back at home. Stairlifts for their two story home, an everyday wheelchair, car enhancements to transport Maury, an off-road Not-a-Wheelchair , ADA compliant this-and-that in their everyday lives. As you can imagine, these items are all adding up and Maury and his family would appreciate any help you could give. It’s GO time, family and friends!!
Since all visiting this site love and know Maury, Kim and their boys, you know they are not the type to ask for help, rather the ones who step up helping others when people are down. Maury, always the one to crack a joke and make you smile when you’re down and out. Maury, always the one to realize you need an extra minute and will sit down and not only listen, but hear you. Maury, that kind of Dad that will jump waves when his boys ask him to. And now Maury, the one who won’t ask, but needs our help! It’s GO time!!!
