Wheelchairs to Tanzania

Donation protected
In Tanzania, imports of aid are taxed heavily. Because of the high taxes, one container with donated wheelchairs, etc., could not be imported into Tanzania and was sent to Uganda. Therefore, some therapists and hospitals have started to manufacture their own aids. Producing the aids locally also gives the possibility to customize them so that they fit both the client and the terrain.

Despite local production, the shortage is still great, and many people cannot afford to buy their aids. Only 40 % of children with disabilities go to school, meaning most people with disabilities are illiterate, making them even more marginalized by society.

Wheelchairs can contribute to a better future for these people. A wheelchair allows one to get out of bed and engage in their community. People can then go to church, attend school, see friends and earn income. The total cost to manufacture a wheelchair is $260. The patients always sign an agreement about taking care of the wheelchair and then return it if it’s no longer in use so that another person can reuse it.

Currently, many people are in line for a wheelchair but cannot afford one. Therefore, we want to contribute and increase the participation of people in the community. If you wish to contribute, you are welcome to transfer the amount you choose. Name the transfer Tanzania.

A project close to our hearts!
