Wheelchair Van for Sweet Sam

Hi, and thank you for taking the time to visit this page. My 9 year old son Sam is in need of a wheelchair accessible van. When he was 5 months old he suffered an anoxic brain injury and since then he’s been in and out of the hospital, overcoming extreme medical obstacles. He has epilepsy (LGS), scoliosis, spastic quadriplegia cerebral palsy, restrictive lung disease, osteoporosis, and cortical visual impairment. He gets his feedings, meds, and all fluids through a feeding tube. He also has a trach and he’s mostly on a ventilator. Despite all of this he is the strongest, bravest 9 year old boy you’ll ever meet and I have the privilege of not only being his dad but also his primary caregiver.

He currently lives with me and his two awesome siblings (12 year old Oliver and 5 year old Adrienne). Our only mode of transportation is a 2006 minivan with 231,000 miles. It’s in need of some expensive repairs and as Sam continues to grow it’s more difficult for me to get him in and out of his custom car seat and load and unload his 60 pound wheelchair. Having to physically move him, especially in tight spaces, also opens up the possibly of him getting injured due to him being so medically fragile. This is where a wheelchair accessible van would be such a huge blessing for us.
