After over a year and a half in hospitals and other rehab facilities due to complications from her TBI, we (Sami's family) are finally getting closer to bringing Sami home. "Home" is now Playa Del Rey since our Venice home was not wheelchair accesible.
We spent 8+ months searching and have finally found a home to bring her to (and our marriage survived a big move and an even bigger downsize). We hope you will visit.
As we continue readying things for her homecoming - nursing, caregivers, training, medical equipment, doctors, therapists, etc - we know we want to be able to get Sami out and about again, besides just to medical appointments. I know she would want to get back to the beach. And out to special occasions with her family and siblings. And maybe the mall.
Non-emergency medical transport is expensive - and if we want to get Sami to the beach, insurance won't cover it (plus it is a 5 day to 2 week pre-arrangement and lots of wait time). So, we want to get her a wheelchair accessible van. New, they are close to $70K. We know someone selling a used one right now for $30k. If we aren't fast enough to get that one, we can likely get another used one for around $40k.
Whatever amount you can help us with will help get Sami back to a more free and fun life! We truly appreciate all your love and support.
