Fundraising for Ovi
I, KD and Grace Ngugi have set up this campaign for our friend OVI JAMES, who is in need of our help. She has been battling Fibromyalgia since 2014. She moved from Charlotte, NC in July to Torrance, CA (near Los Angeles) in July, 2017. The goal is to raise $2995 for an automatic motorized wheelchair (The Foldamatic) and $3,000 for housing. She has written a short bio to share her situation with us, as follows:
My name is Ovi James and I’m 34 years old, and also a single mum of an eleven years old. I want to humbly appeal for your help, as I am facing circumstances that have now overwhelmed me. I have always faced my challenges with fierce determination. Until I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in 2015, when I was living in Charlotte, NC. As the condition progressed, it became more and more difficult to work, until December 9th, 2016, when I lost my job. Fibromyalgia is a progressive, debilitating, chronic condition, that primarily causes extreme fatigue, as well as sleep, memory and mood issues. This condition has cost me so much loss and changed my life in a monumental way. My son has also been affected tremendously, due to the stress of homelessness, in addition to being thrust into the role of a caregiver, from the tender age of 11 when this condition began to affect my health. With time, our circumstances appear to have affected him more than he could bear, and he to be hospitalized for a short while to receive some help with anxiety and depression issues. My son means everything to me, and words cannot begin to describe the pain I feel when I see him going through these type of health problems.
In late 2017, my health took a downturn, and I started using a cane to walk. However, this was a struggle due to the excruciating pain that I was experiencing. By the beginning of this year, my doctors prescribed a wheelchair. So far, I have been able to acquire an old used electric wheelchair, but it gets stuck easily and leaves me in some dangerous situations. Getting this 200lb wheelchair into my car is particularly difficult, as I sometimes have to do it by myself when my son is no with me. I need a wheelchair that is light weight and easy for me to get around easily get around and take my son to school, grocery shopping, running errands. Pretty much getting my life back.
I have filled for disability assistance but my case is currently pending hearing. However, my son and I are still at risk of becoming homeless again because our housing is temporary. We are trying to raise more funds to purchase a camper for our family to live in until we can find another home. As a mother, I want to provide my son with a stable home. We would like to kindly ask you to continue helping us on our journey. After we reach the first goal, our next goal will be to move into a more stable housing situation.
