Wheelchair for mother with dementia

UPDATE: Above is a picture of the estimated cost of getting her a dream wheelchair! This is the reason why the amount had to be increased to allow for the quote that I was just given today.

This is a photo of my Mom taken at the park where we were having a lovely day filled with good food, good drink, good company and good laughs! It was a great day and seeing her so happy has always filled my life with such goodness and love! <3 

My Mom has been dealing with Dementia since she was 50 and has had it for 12 years now. In the beginning she was all her, sharing in memories together over our usual cup of coffee, with glimpses of what would come. A forgotten word or phrase that she once knew and found easy to say.

In 2013 January, I was told for 5 months that she had an "unexplained falls" every month. After the first time it happened, I asked if the doctor could see her and asked that the nurse please relay that I believed she was having seizures. The nurse laughed it off saying it was her medications and that it was a silly request. Monthly I fought until May wanting her to be tested for seizures and the "unexplained falls." Each time I was ignored and denied what I believed to be true "Mom was having seizures."

May 2013 I came to visit her for Mother's Day and was shocked to find her in a state of seizures. When we arrived about 20 or more happened within 30 minutes, I asked the nurse (a different nurse) to call and she willingly accepted that Mom should be taken by ambulance. The ambulance whisked my Mom away with me there with her throughout the ride, and Ash following behind with the car. The doctor that saw her sent her for tests and to meet with a neurologist as soon as possible. I took her to her tests, and at the EEG said "these have to be seizures!' The technician was not supposed to say anything, but as I opened up about my frustrations about her being seen sooner told me that she was having loads of little seizures during the EEG. I met with the neurologist who confirmed all the results, also letting me know that 10% of patients with Dementia experience seizures. Now she would get the help she needed, and that was all I cared about. 

Later that year, in November of 2013, she ended up in the hospital, no longer able to walk. At this point, with reluctance I began to realize with great sadness how Dementia overtook the person. My Mom tried so hard to stand, she tried so hard to keep herself moving, but sadly ended up having to be put into a wheelchair at this point.

I have always wanted to get Mom her very own wheelchair but she does not make enough money, nor have we been able to do so. So each and every donation you provide is like a dream come true! I want to thank each of you from the bottom of our hearts, especially mine how thankful we are for your compassion, kindness and willingness to donate. It is appreciated and will be put to the best use possible!

This is Juli with her one and only loving daughter, Sarah greeting her on mothers day at the local care home.

Juli is a wonderful mother to her daughter and has graciously kept her smile and love for her only child, alongside her friends and family thoughout the years. She loves music - mainly the good old legends like Elvis, and her favourate treats fed to her are the small things that make a difference.


Juli was diagnosed at the young age of her early 50's, and has up until the last few years been the most active, happiest, dancing bundle of joy you can wish any one to share the love with. Unfortunately, one mothers day she had collapsed from many episodes of seizures. After being sent home in a wheelchair, Juli has never been able to move her limbs and body to walk again, and her speech are now small words.

Sarah understandably has been wanting her mother to be in as comfortable care as possible. Juli spends alot of time in her current chair, but unfortunately is not designed for her body. The funds would make her live at least that comfort in the new wheelchair for the long days. Being able to take her out of the facility, as we do as often as possible, it would be lovely upgrade to make that happen, and a small contribution to a loving mother and daughter.
