Wheelchair for Leaf

Back in 2014, I was diagnosed with Functional Neurologic Disorder (FND). In mostly non-medical terms, my central nervous system was wrecked by complex PTSD as a result of extreme, repeated trauma over a prolonged period of time. My brain has essentially become so overwhelmed that it has difficulty performing basic tasks such as sending and receiving messages to various muscle groups. It means that I’m still able to walk okay but it takes incredible amounts of energy.

After asking my FND specialist about getting a wheelchair that would help me get out to do errands and my kids’ sporting events, she explained that my insurance will only cover a wheelchair if im not able to get around my house. Walking around my house is necessary for keeping my nervous system completely engaged so insurance isn’t going to cover it for me. Which really stinks.

Through all of the research I’ve been able to do for a wheelchair that covers my needs and limitations, the Eagle HD Lightweight Foldable Wheelchair made by Quick N Mobile is the best.

Having this mobility device will add to the quality of our lives in so many ways. Errands will be easier, attending my appointments and the kids’ appointments won’t be nearly so draining, and I can finally get back to attending their sporting events and performances! I’ve missed out on so much of their lives over the past two years when the FND became worse and having the ability to reserve energy for quality time with my amazing kids before they’re off building their own lives.

One of the quality time activities that we would like to do together is to go trick or treating together one last time. Because the kids’ dad and I alternate Halloweens, the last chance I was able to take them trick or treating was two years ago. It fell two weeks after I had surgery so I wasn’t able to take them. Thankfully they got to enjoy the holiday with their dad and bonus family though! This year Juriah and Jessenya would like to go again and, because this is my last chance before they both are high schoolers so we’re asking for help raising the money.

This far we have raised $1065! That leaves $2354 to go. If we’re able to raise that much by 10/18 the wheelchair can be ordered and received by 10/28, allowing for some time for any shipping challenges that may come up.

In order to get it in and out of the back of my RAV 4, I'll need a ramp. As of now, the best I have found for my use is linked below.

I've over-calculated the cost in order to account for possible unexpected expenses. Anything left over will be donated to FNDHope to help others with this rare disorder.

I recognize that times are tough for all of us and I am hesitant to ask for help like this for this reason. The kids and I all deeply appreciate all donations to help us spend more time together doing things together out of the house. Whatever you feel you can give, if you feel like you can, is a blessing to us. Thank you for taking the time to consider supporting us!

PS: Cheryl Eigenberg is my mom and she is handling the money for me.
