Hey! I’m Alannah, although most people call me Al, and I live with multiple complex disabilities that affect my mobility and overall health.
Recently I suffered a significant relapse which has left me unable to use both legs.
I have a wheelchair to use currently, which was given to me by a friend around 6 years ago. It’s big, bulky, heavy and extremely difficult for me to use alone, particularly as I experience upper limb weakness.
I love to be active and outdoors, and one of my biggest passions is having fun with my friends exploring new places and enjoying live music. Currently, I am unable to do any of these things and my quality of life is greatly impacted, and the cost of equipment that suits my needs is far more than I can afford on my own.
I had a wheelchair assessment back in March, and since then I’ve done my best to apply to various charities and organisations for funding to avoid having to set up a gofundme, but these have been unsuccessful.
The funding would give me an Icon 60 Active Manual wheelchair with customisations, a set of off road wheels, and a front power attachment so I can go to festivals and access the outdoors again.
When I first sat in that wheelchair at my assessment, I cried. I have never known freedom like it. It felt like immediate relief from my pain and symptoms and gave me hope I’d be able to access the world again.
Thank you for reading and I’m eternally grateful for any donation anyone is able to make!
