Wheel Chair Van Conversion Cost for John
Donation protected
My name is Kelly, I am raising money to cover the cost of John's conversion van.
John was born with cerebral palsy and grew up trying to not let it impact his life. In his 30s John started having complications with CP, since then he has had 40 surgeries to keep him mobile. Last May his doctor told him he needed to start using a wheelchair to give his joints a break. In the last six months he has become more and more wheelchair dependant. After his last surgery in May, he was not permitted to walk at all. We are hoping they clear him to walk in the next few weeks. However, he is continuing to get weaker and weaker.
When he first got the wheelchair we bought an inexpensive van and added a ramp to allow him to continue to drive and bring the wheelchair with him.
As he continues to get weaker, it had become more difficult for him to manage the manual ramp and get the wheelchair in the van. We looked at getting our current van properly converted, but no one will do it due to the age of the van and possible rust.
Last Saturday, we went to look at a converted van that has a power ramp. This would allow him to ride the wheelchair into the van and drive from the wheelchair. The bank approved the loan and we took the van home Saturday. Yesterday the dealership called us and said that the bank was not releasing the funds. They made a mistake and should not have included the cost of the conversion in the loan. We need to come up with 15,000 to cover the cost of the conversion by next Friday or we have to return the van.
We are contacting a lawyer, but it won't be resolved by next Friday.
