What’s Left? A film about loss by Seth Young

Donation protected
We’ve all lost someone we love.  Grief is a part of life, and it’s hard to see the end of the rainbow when swallowed by the storm clouds of loss.  What’s Left? Is about the journey of a couple who lose their son to suicide. As each grieves his passing, their own relationship becomes strained.  It’s difficult to come to terms when losing anyone, especially losing someone who takes their own life. We’re left with so many unanswered questions, often internalizing our grief to the point we shut ourselves off from the rest of the world.  With this film I hope to shine a light on the unseen process that we all go through when trying to be compassionate, and have patience with others as they work through their grieving process. The parents don’t forget their son, instead they choose to remember him.  Not his death or how he died, but his life and the joy he brought into their lives while with them.

So why am I raising money?  I’ve been fortunate enough to have made some wonderful friends in my local film-making community, and through their generosity I’ve been able to work on and complete a dozen films in the last two years.  Through these experiences I’ve gained a greater appreciation for the time and effort required to make these films. I’d like to have a budget to elevate the production quality of the film, so the story has the same level of impact on the viewer as it does me.  This requires funding for hiring actors, hiring crew, equipment rental, location rental, production cost, music, festival fees, and most importantly the ability to feed the wonderful cast and crew that will help bring this story to life.

Sounds great, but who am I?  I’m glad you asked! My name is Seth Young, I’m a father, a husband, a filmmaker, and most of all a person.  I’ve been acting and writing since elementary school. After college, I had the opportunity to work on a few short film projects with a former theatre director.  From there my love for acting and writing drove me to create my own films. As I mentioned earlier, I’ve been so fortunate to have a wonderful and supportive film-making community around me.  Meeting actors with feature film credits, working beside directors and cinematographers with decades of experience in television. The entire time I’ve never been ignored or laughed at for my questions or ideas.  The support has been phenomenal from these strangers who are now friends. My biggest supporter; however, has been my wonderful wife. She is the best example of love and compassion, she is constantly supporting and encouraging me to pursue this creative outlet despite how much time it takes me away from her.

We’ve all got our own stories, if nothing else I hope to tell one that inspires you to do the same.

Sincerely,

Seth Young (Writer & Director)
