Hey, I’m Palak.

I moved to Norwich from India, partly to escape my family and their quest to get me ‘settled’ (kidding! …kind of), but mostly to pursue my MA in Film at Norwich University of the Arts. I was a photographer and I recently switched to filmmaking, which has been exciting, terrifying, and honestly, a little overwhelming.

And I need your HELP.

Okay, jokes aside...

I may not have everything figured out as a filmmaker yet, but I do know that I want to make something honest. Something that feels real and right to me.

This short film is an experiment somewhere between realism and fiction incorporating abstraction. I found a second-hand handycam with old footage of a family celebrating the holidays. That moment stuck with me. So, in the film, my character finds this footage and starts questioning what family means to them. It’s about family, identity, nostalgia, and isolation, things I think about a lot.

Also, I want to make it clear that I won’t be revealing the family’s identity, the footage will be blurred to respect their privacy.

I’m making this on my own, but filmmaking isn’t cheap. A little help with costs would mean I can do justice to the story in my head.

The funds will go toward making sure the cast and crew are well-fed, well-rested, and not left hitchhiking home. It covers equipment, locations, post-production, food, travel, accommodation, and a little contingency fund because life is full of surprises
