Dear Friends
It with deep regret that I choose to ask for charity.
I have maintained a relationship with a few friends on facebook for two decades. My experience of trying to work outside the medical community has been challenging, humbling and humiliating. I have survived homelessness and bankruptcy in Florida, New York and Colorado. Despite reaching out to friends and family, I remain estranged. I have worked retail and in schools for over 15 years. I consider this extended family with honor and respect. It has been very difficult to survive, in our economy, in this fashion. I imagine some of you still maintain relationships with friends and family of mine in other communities. Perhaps you can help.
I live in Denver. A few months ago, I was employed and donating to Children's Hospital of Colorado, Shriners Hospital and St. Judes' Research Campaigns. Now my misfortune is that I am unemployed, uninsured and I am involved in a Workman's Compensation case. I have had two major dental emergencies and I am in need of support. I am facing bankruptcy, again, while awaiting Unemployment Insurance support. In 2022-2023 I applied to dozens of work listings for the corporate sector and for the City of Denver. After 15 weeks, I received one interview for a part time job with Parks and Recreation. Once again, I am applying myself to online applications and listings. The last time this happened, it took Colorado and I, 5 weeks and I received three checks over 8 weeks and I walked, rather desperately down Broadway into retail outlets, only to be rejected at face value. I received no call backs to multiple paper applications. Across the street, 7-11 was a part time offer, they didn't call back. Afterwards, I applied on paper; so, I applied at the corporate site. Do they actually consider people without an MBA on corporate applications. Even the pharmaceutical industry, where I should have fit in fine, ignored me. I was glad they responded from a job placement ad and I made a few local callbacks a positive experience that kept me hopeful in the face of more rejection. I left my applications in the corporate registries but didn't get any interviews. Two weeks later, I sent emails to the only friends and family I had addresses for and I received enough funding to pay rent, while Denver SNAP gave me 103 USD for food. I was desperate and I got a job for stocking and working sales for minimum wage at a liquor store nearby. I have no transportation; but, I hope to get a new bicycle.
I hope to get through the next month's rent and expenses, which I estimate at 1800 USD, by establishing this link for your donation. Thank you for your, consideration; any amount will help.
