House Fire Support for Heidi Moon
On December 9, 2024 my bestie, Heidi Moon, was at home snuggled in bed for the night with her dog LuLu. She heard a loud “bang!” - loud enough to shake her home. Assuming it was a family member returning home from work, she closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep. Ten minutes later she heard another “bang!”. This time she decided to investigate. She opened her bedroom door and saw smoke coming down the hallway. When she opened the service door to her garage a huge plume of smoke rushed at her - there was a fire in the garage! Rushing in her pajamas and bare feet, she began frantically searching for LuLu….but couldn’t find her. Heidi feared LuLu had run into the garage when she opened the service door and was now trapped with the fire. But she had no choice, she had to get out. She escaped out of the house in tears without lil Lu. She alerted the neighbors to evacuate their homes and called 911. Kind neighbors held Heidi, placed their arms and own clothing around her as she watched her home go up in flames.
The fire took everything. She has lost her home, all its contents, and her mode of transportation. The bed she was sleeping in got torched. Her eyeglasses melted. She lost all her clothes (yes, even her unmentionables). Fortunately, she did not lose LuLu. A police officer went into the burning home and found LuLu in her favorite spot on the couch. Lulu did sustain damage to her eyes from the smoke and heat. The vet is concerned how this will affect her eyesight, but we are hoping for a full recovery. We are just incredibly grateful to have Lu.
Heidi is completely displaced. The insurance and restoration companies have estimated it will be a year before her home will be available for her to move back in. I am asking for any support - monetary and/or prayers during this devastating life event.
I recognize this time of year is the holiday season and people are focused on their own families. Anything that you could offer to help offset the cost of replacing furniture, all her home’s contents, her vehicle, clothing and essentials, veterinary bills for Lulu’s eye damage, and assist with deductibles would be immensely appreciated. I am starting with a donation of my own to kickoff this fundraiser. Will you join me?
