OHAH Honduras Spay/Neuter Mission

Donation protected
We are the OHAH Honduras Mission.  We are a group from Oakwood Hills Animal Hospital in Eau Claire, WI.

Tired from all the sadness in the world, 4 years ago we decided to use the skills we have to do something positive.  In many areas of the world, dogs and cats lacking access to any medical care suffer from disease and overpopulation.  In turn, roaming dog packs and feral cats  become a people problem, as well.  We were contacted and asked to help in areas of Roatan, Honduras.  For the past 3 years we have conducted annual veterinary medical and surgical clinics to remote areas of Roatan.  The result has been improvements in both health and overpopulation.

In this, our fourth year of conducting Honduras missions, we face even greater challenges and opportunities to help. We have been contacted by a concerned animal-friendly group from Copan on mainland Honduras. Their village has a large problem with dog overpopulation. Unfortunately in third world areas with no other options, mass poisoning or even shooting of street dogs and cats is an all-too-common solution to overpopulation.  We at Oakwood Hills were contacted and asked to help. We were able to obtain a written agreement with the Copan authorities that no poisoning or shooting campaign would occur if we, the OHAH Honduras Mission, would come and provide spay/neuter and medical clinics for 2015 and 2016. Logistics have been worked out and this year's clinic will be October 10th to 17th. Our goal is for 100 surgeries and the treatment of as many dogs and cats as is possible.

The OHAH Honduras Mission is unique in that we are not a large non-profit organization. We are a group of 7 (2 doctors, 2 technicians, and 3 assistants) who volunteer to take unpaid time away from our regular work and travel to Honduras to provide free veterinary care, usually in very primitive settings.  If not for donations our Honduras clinic would not be feasible.

We are thankful to those who offered their help.  All donations, whether monetary or for drugs and medical supplies,  are used 100% for the benefit of Honduran street dogs and cats who have no other options except disease, starvation, and poisoning.

We are making a positive impact to the animals and people of Honduras. They have expressed their gratitude to us and we express ours to those who help.
