The Corps Dance Crew is a Southern California based team whose focus is to bring anime, comics, and other fantastic geekery to life through performance. Comprised of non-paid, professionally trained dancers, The Corps is essentially a group of friends who wish to share their love of cosplay and dance with all fandoms.
We, Sonali and Kayla, created the team in 2013 as a dance project. After participating and placing in a number of SoCal hip hop competitions, we started to shift our focus towards the anime and comic convention scene. Our first convention performance in 2014 at Anime Expo, (the largest anime convention in North America), helped establish us in the community as a new wave of performance art; coupling cosplay and dance to tell stories of beloved characters both animated and cinematic. Since then we have explored and performed as a number of different characters from a variation of stories at Stan Lee’s Comikaze, LosCon 42, Anime Los Angeles, Hanadoki Con, and most recently at WonderCon in the renowned Microsoft Theater in LA.
Recognition for the crew has grown exponentially over our 3 year lifespan. Fans from all over the world have voiced their support for us, and requests to perform/appear at multiple cons outside of California have become more frequent. We are doing our best to meet demands and keep our quality at the caliber that our fans expect, and that growth has brought us face to face with new challenges.
The Corps Dance Crew is now heading into the third manifestation of the team, transitioning from a dance project into a full company. We want to keep bringing newer and grander performances to the anime and comic convention community as well as our fans, and we’re hoping you will be able to help us. We’re asking for your help with donations and funds given to our amazing dancers; all of whom volunteer their time simply for the joy of the art and each other. Your contributions will go towards the following costs:
-Studio fees (monthly fees associated with renting and utilizing our practice/photo space)
-Costumes (creation, storage, maintenance, props)
-Creation of our new website (domain, trademark)
-Travel costs
Any contributions to the team would be greatly appreciated, and donors will be credited and celebrated on our Instagram!
Thank you so much for your consideration and your support.
For the joy of the art and the nerd in our hearts!
Sourumeito.
