To those of you that don't know her, this is my sister, Cindy McAndrew Holloway. She is a very humble and generous lady. In her 58 years, has always put family, and others in need, before herself. Now it is time to put Cindy first.
First let me explain that she has not had any medical insurance or seen a doctor in decades. Her husband is a carpenter and insurance was not afforable, and they do not meet income requirements for insurance today.
She developed a mass on her neck a few years ago. With no insurance, no money, fear of the diagnosis, and desire not to burden anyone, it continued to grow. Her health declined in the last month. But no one really knew that she also had a large tumor on her left arm. She had kept it a secret, and when asked about the bulge under long sleeves, she explained that she had warm/cold packs wrapped around an arthritic elbow.
On June 1st, I learned through messages that she had become unable to get out of bed, so my husband and I rushed to her home and realized she was terribly sick. On that day was admitted to Lake Norman Regional Hospital. The tumor on her arm was infected (as of this date we do not have a name or diagnosis for it), and the infection had entered her bloodstream and her kidneys had shut down. She was in grave condition. She had to be treated for kidney failure and receive blood transfusions, and antibiotics, before they would do the surgery to remove the infected tumor. She also has a bleeding ulcer. The tumor was removed on the 5th. She is home now, with a wound vac machine, and at least 3 visits promised from home health nurses. Next will be skin grafts, and then the neck mass surgery. This great hospital has charity lined up to pay the hospital bill. But the hospital does not have a charity to pay for doctors, medical suppies and medicene.
I am asking for donations for Cindy, to help pay for her medical needs, and to meet the financial needs that will keep her in her home of 38 years. Cindy's husband, Michael, has missed work due to his health being poor and of course being by her side during this time. His condition must be addressed very soon.
Prayers are appreciated. A heartfelt thank you from all the family, to anyone reading this, that I know prayed for Cindy in the last weeks.
Any donations will help and will be greatly appreciated.
Help me keep Cindy steady on her road to recovery.
Thanks very much, Debra McAndrew Barnett
