My name is Helen Davis, I am based in Javea, Spain. I'm passionate about raising money for children in care in Sri Lanka. There are 42 boys and girls in total, they have been abused, abandoned or orphaned and live a very basic existence. After supporting the Wijesinghe Girls Home for a year, we identified 2 more homes that desperately needed help. The Baransuriya Boys Home and The Anula Wijerama Girls Home both in the area of Ambalangoda on the SW Coast.
Funds raised are sent to our Project Managers, Sampath and Dilhani who liaise with the matrons of each home to purchase dry foods, protein (not currently in their diet) mosquito nets, shoes, school uniforms and other essentials for their environment and well being. Photos and receipts are provided to ensure we know that the money is spent exactly as agreed.
With your generous support and other organised fundraising events, we have been able deliver craft classes, art lessons and we will shortly begin carpentry sessions for the boys. Also appropriate life skills to enable them to be independant when they leave the homes will also be introduced. In the past
year we have made many improvements to the buildings - total renovation of the boys bedrooms and supplying of all new bed linen.
We will be able to share with you the success and growth of the project . This worthy cause is very close to our hearts. Not only will we be supporting the well being and future of the girls and boys, but also helping our PMs, Sampath and Dilhani who are still struggling to educate their boys and to rebuild their lives after the Tsunami, 2004. Their small business, Davis Home Designs, which incorporates a workshop enables us to place orders for bed linen, curtains, uniforms and other essentials.
Still loads to do in 2019 …. renovate the kitchen , replace equipment, crockery, cutlery etc. Repair and decorate the Buddhist Shrine in the grounds of the boys home. Educational support sessions, Volleyball pitch for the boys and much more !!
