My dog Lucy had a medical emergency this past Sunday where she tore her CCL while playing outside. This came to a surprise to me as we were celebrating her one month with me. I adopted Lucy from Austin Pets Alive on the 17th of April when I was in search for my first dog to own now that I am freshly settled in Austin. I wanted to give her a second chance at being happy and loved, and always make sure to give her what she needs. However, I did not prepare for such a major expense this early in having her with already paying over $500 to get her x-rays taken and prescription pain killers. The veterinarian at Austin Pet Hospital was able to confirm Lucy's tear on her left hind leg with the x-rays taken and has requested her daily exercise to be limited while we plan for a surgery in the future when I can come up with the funds. The vet has estimated the operation to be approximately $3,000-$6,000 depending on the specialist who is willing to preform the operation under the present circumstances. Lucy has been a champ throughout these past couple of days where she tries to be the same happy, loving, and playful dog that she truly is. She has slowed her pace when walking and second guesses her footing when stepping up/down on sidewalks. She also lets out a small cry every time she gets up from a resting position. I know she is in pain and is trying not to let that get in the way of her having a great day, but I know her continued use of her injured leg is making the matter worst and putting her at risk of tearing her right CCL with the overcompensation she has put on her right side. This is why I am reaching out to everyone today so I may reach the funds for her operation faster and get her the treatment she needs. I understand the current situations we are in today has put a lot of stress on everyone, and I want to thank all of you who are kind enough to help me in the funding of my dog's operation. If the full $5,000 is not needed for her operation, I will donate all that remains to Austin Pets Alive so that cats and dogs who are in need of a second chance, like my Lucy, can get the care and love they need till they are able to find their forever homes.
