As many of you know, my brother has been battling a severe infection in his leg for the past several years due to a knee replacement. After roughly 15 surgeries and 150-plus days in the hospital, it was time for him to make a drastic decision. This decision became clearer when he was hospitalized and intubated in May due to the infection and he decided to have his leg amputated.
The procedure took place on June 30th and was successful, however, he is still battling a serious infection. As of today, he is in a rehab center and then will be moved to an in-home patient care facility until he can become more self-sufficient and move in with Chip and me. Over the next few months, he will have intensive physical therapy and once the wound heals sufficiently he will be fitted for a prosthetic and relearn how to walk. While initially removing his leg seemed like a no-brainer it has become more apparent that he has a long road ahead of him to take care of himself and earn a living.
We as a family are trying our best to support him through this tough time but know any financial help would be greatly appreciated by him as well. Please keep him in your prayers that God will give him the strength to meet this new challenge in his life.
