Last night my best friend Holly's doggies Jimmy and Riley (2 King Charles Spaniel rescue's) found an unopened pack of Orbit gum- and ate the ENTIRE pack. The main ingredient in Orbit (and most other sugarless gum) is Xylitol. Xylitol is FATAL TO DOGS.
We rushed the boys the the Vet and they determined that both dogs had ingested fatal doses. Treatment for this type of poison is intesive and very expensive. Holly was given 10 minutes to decide to start the treatment or have her boys put to sleep. Holly is the best dog owner I've ever known, she rescued these dogs and puts them above everything else in her life. She never had children and has no blood family so for her, these dogs are her life.
We paid the 50% required to start the treatment on both dogs, but the balance will be due in 3 days.
