Hello friends, family, and kind-hearted souls —

My name is Daniel Refner, and my wife, Kim, and I are reaching out with humble hearts.

This past year has tested us in ways we never imagined. Kim was diagnosed with lupus, a serious autoimmune disease that has turned our world upside down. The treatments, medications, and hospital visits have taken an emotional and financial toll that words can barely express. We’ve spent our savings, drained our emergency funds, and taken on overwhelming medical debt — all to make sure Kim gets the care she needs.

Now, just as the cold winds of winter begin to blow, our furnace and central air unit have completely broken down. We were told it needs a full replacement, costing $14,033.00.

We have two small grandchildren living with us, both under the age of 11. They bring light and laughter into our home every day — but the thought of them being cold this winter breaks our hearts. They deserve warmth, safety, and love — not blankets piled high in a freezing house.

We’ve always worked hard, helped others when we could, and believed in the goodness of community. But right now, we’re the ones in need. We don’t qualify for assistance programs — we simply make too much on paper, even though in reality, every dollar we earn is stretched thin by medical bills and basic living costs.

So we’re asking — please help us. Whether it’s a donation of any size or sharing our story so it might reach someone who can give, your kindness could make all the difference for our family.

We never thought we’d have to ask for help like this. But life happens, and when it rains, it pours. Still, we believe in the power of compassion — and that together, people can help carry one another through the storm.
