I adopted Mabel in November 2018, and she has been the most perfect baby angel. She’s well behaved, sassy, and cuddles on her own terms. Everyone knows how much I love this cat.
In the almost 7 years I’ve had her, she’s had virtually no medical issues. I’ve been blessed with a healthy, happy kitty.
Last week, I started noticing some issues with her using the litter box. She was hesitating, and meowing, and I also noticed blood in and around the box.
This past Wednesday 8/20, we took her to the vet for an urgent appointment. She had stopped eating, drinking, using the box, and was not reacting to much of anything.
She was prescribed an anti-inflammatory, a probiotic supplement, and Gabapentin twice daily to manage her stress. The vet said that she had stress-related inflammation & was unable to pass anything - urine or stool. They drained her bladder at the vet, and with medication, things appeared to look up over the next two days - she started eating again! She was pooping too, and playing.
Today (Saturday 8/23), I got home from work & she greeted me at the door, but something was off. She was the most lethargic I had ever seen her. I scooped the box (as I had been doing daily) and noticed she hadn’t peed in at least 24 hours.
Long story short, we’ve been at the Vet ER for 5 hours already - we’re looking at a hefty bill, starting at $2k. Sedated X-rays, bloodwork, catheterization, and possible overnight stay in a hospital.
I’m hoping to raise some money to ease the financial strain so I can focus on getting her better.
