Dear Family and Friends,
As you may be well aware, my journey in music has impacted my life in so many ways. Emotionally, physically, and personally, I have grown to be the person I am now through my musicianship, and through every note I have practiced and performed.
In middle school my only struggle was picking what instrument I was going to play for my sixth grade band class. I remember being extremely interested in the flute, but I ultimately ended up picking the trombone to be similar to my brother who played Euphonium. After all, we ended up sitting next to each other in band class my freshman year in high school! I soon learned that there was a trombone in the family, since my dad and cousin Nick played it in high school!
About 6 years ago, my parents and I took an annual trip to our shared family "Up North House." I was so excited about seeing the recent progress on the family puzzle in the living room, that I almost ran past the huge black trombone case wrapped in a green bungee cord to hold it closed! Turns out it had been left for me to use in band class! I stopped dead in my tracks and looked at what soon became my future in music. The first notes on that trombone were thrilling, even though I had never played a trombone in my entire life.
The next two years I learned how to play each note, new slide positions, and the importance of tuning on the trombone! I met some of my best friends in those two years, and we're still friends to this day!
I began attending summer music camp every summer, making some great memories. The summer of my seventh grade year is where I hold my most fond trombone memory. The guy next to me, Tyler, brought his water bottle to class and we thought it would be hilarious if we filled up my trombone full of water. So yes, we did it, and suddenly it was time to play and I didn't have enough time to empty all the water. I quickly went to play, and all the water went out of the horn and all over this poor saxophone player in front of me! I even told her it was spit. It was probably the funniest moment of my life.
In high school I started to get serious with my trombone. I auditioned for the high school bands, and fortunately I made it into the Wind Ensamble with my brother, Adam! I began to work really hard on both my solo work and band music to be constantly improving. This improvement leads to my current musicianship.
Within this school year, I dedicated consistent practice time to prepare for my lessons. I started to study privately with an advanced instructor who continues to push me to success.
Not only have I advanced in my musicianship, I have been successful in many performances and competitions within this year. One of these several accomplishments is my acceptance into the orchestra at Interlochen summer arts camp. This is a huge honor, and I'm excited for this challenging summer that lies ahead of me.
The family trombone has served me very well, and I have so many fond memories playing some of the best music on it. Regardless of all of the memories, the trombone is wearing out.
With Interlochen summer camp approaching, the urgency for a new trombone rose. I have asked many professional trombone players their input on what trombones I should buy, and I am narrowing down on the options. Since my musicianship is advancing, and my interest in perusing trombone in the future is increasing, I am in need of a new trombone.
Any contribution towards this new trombone is greatly appreciated. We are collecting contributions so the trombone can be purchased prior to summer camp this year. I am sincerely grateful for all of the continuous support I receive from my family and friends. Thank you all so much!
